Born in Shiraz, Iran in 1980, Mahsa Karimizadeh has been active as an artist since 2005. She has been Graduated in sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran. She has created a wide-ranging body of work, ranging from sculpture to installations and paintings.
Before university, she had focused on producing expressive portraits, but soon after she turned her attention and sensibility to sculpture. Her work covers a wide variety but always remains very simple, mainly focused on primary visual elements such as lines or dots. There is a subtle sense of contrast in her works, seeming at once both unfinished and tuned to perfection. She spends hours and hours adding or omitting lines or details, but it never seems like that much time has been spent on them.
Karimizadeh won the second prize in the 5th Tehran Sculpture Biennial, for which she was awarded a two-month artist residency at the Cité internationale des Art in Paris. Karimizadeh also participated in a one-year 2015-16 residency in “Lepsien Art Foundation” in Dusseldorf, Germany where Zero foundation invited her to participate in the “Socle Du Monde” biennale 2017 at the Heart Museum, Denmark.
