Mohammad Keyvan’s complex, large-scale paintings make numerous references to the issues of contemporary society, scientific endeavors, wars, conflicts, etc.; which have generally been combined with the allusions to the history of art. Numerous equivocal, symbolic images are congregated within abundant, extremely detailed compositions, making an overall parody –or reference- to the historical developments of image-making. His diverse iconography comes from various sources, portraying social and intellectual orientations in a metaphorical idiom.
Keyvan’s work characteristically shows a combination of picture planes, diverse painting modes -including figurative and abstract approaches, geometrical imagery and mechanical devices together with organic imagery, and a combination of the mediums including painting and assemblage. His art makes extensive references to art history and the methods of visual expression, juxtaposing these in remarkably innovative pictorial spaces.
