Jaleh Talebpour’s octaptych painting and its accompanying video-installation are motivated by the biblical subject “The Massacre of the Innocents”. The theme, referring to the massacre of the male children ordered by Herod, the king of Judea, has been embraced throughout Western art history from the Renaissance onward. The present exhibition, basically inspired by two pieces by Peter Paul Rubens and Valerio Castello, is an artistic reaction to the recurrent situation of the innocents being killed. The texts in the video-installation also refer to various mass-destruction occurrences in human history: News we see and hear on a daily basis, and we pass by them indifferently.
