Amir Mobed, the pioneer Iranian installation and body art in Iran, has surrendered himself to leeches in this performance. Mobed’s performances are based on themes such as physical pain associated with mental suffering and the vulnerability of the body. They often lead the body to the limits of its physical endurance. Clear socio-political allusions such as surveillance and control, indifference or participation of the masses, and acceptance or denial of responsibility have always been the recurrent themes of his installations and performances, which have greatly influenced the contemporary Iranian art scene over the past two decades.
